Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy

Each time we receive a physical injury, our body responds by limiting the movement in that area to protect it while it heals. Unfortunately, after the initial injury has healed the holding patterns adopted by the body do not automatically go away. Over time the way we stand, move, and hold ourselves changes in response to this collection of protective patterns. When the injury involves emotional trauma, those emotions may be held within the muscles further inhibiting recovery.

Somatic Therapy addresses these old injuries and the residual trauma through a process of complementary techniques that may address muscles, fascia, organs, the lymphatic system, and the nervous system.

Modalities

Visceral Manipulation Specific placement of manual forces to encourage
normal mobility, tone and motility to the viscera and their connective tissue. This gentle manipulation can improve function of the organs as well as the overall body system.

Cranial Osteopathy Identify and release restrictions in the cranial bones. This work is typically done in conjunction with CranialSacral Therapy that addresses the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and the cerebral spinal fluid that surrounds and supports those structures.

Chapman’s Reflexes – Gentle stimulation similar to acupressure to rebalance the neural signals to organs and systems.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage – Facilitation of lymphatic flow to enhance
natural removal of waste products held within the body’s tissues. Highly effective in
reducing systemic inflammation as well as edema. Please note this work does not
include post treatment bandaging.

Trauma Release – Gentle hands-on work that engages the body’s natural response to stored trauma and allows it to process the event.
